XSection 2018: Generations

The UN has described a global population likely to expand by roughly 1.2 billion from 2015 estimates to 8.5 billion in 2030. The nature of this kind of change – across 15 short years asks a question of what it will mean to be a part of the “next generation” born to Earth. What new pressures will face the children of 2030? What new opportunities? What tools will they be using to engage and shape their world? What kind of world will they inhabitant? How will these future generations look back at the 19th and 20th century – at the Baby Boomers, GenX, GenY, Millenials, and the many others that are now similar historical markers? What will they say about their past…about us?

XSection is inviting proposals for projects and articles for the 2018 edition – and opening up to new forms of contribution to engage the question of our future environments. This year, XSection is inviting two types of contribution:

  1. Short articles to be published in XSection e-journal (All articles will be blind, peer-reviewed articles, published by ePress Publications.
  2. Short articles, photo-essays, and other documented works to be published in the XSection 2018: Generations book, curated(*) as a special edition document publication by XSection.

(*)Aligned with publication, XSection is also calling for any 3D/physical production of work, art, or media that will be curated in a public gallery exhibition in November 2018.

Contributions to XSection are open to academics, industry professionals, and students of all disciplines and fields. XSection is keen to engage with the opportunities and challenges of our future environments by encouraging and supporting a collaboration and sharing of ideas across traditional boundaries, and across generations.
